la fille bertha

I've been totally obsessed with the feminine creations of Italian artist La Fille Bertha since discovering her on Instagram a few months ago. These luscious ladies adorn gorgeous prints in their polka dot collars and winged eyeliner; their pouting faces can also be spotted on buildings across Europe, where they are rendered larger than life and sometimes with animal bodies. The delicious combination of colors, patterns, and lines in La Fille Bertha's illustrations are soft yet strong, and I've even been considering getting one of the following as my next tattoo...

little lovers

Jenee Larson is one of my favorite illustrators, whose artwork portrays luscious tattooed girls with giant cat eyes in pretty underwear. As if this combination weren't dreamy enough, she adds glitter embellishments to many of her ultra-feminine creatures who sometimes reveal hairy legs beneath their pastel lingerie. Jenee is an adorable babe herself, and features an ever changing head of the most deliciously colored hair (as seen above). She also curates a beautiful blog on tumblr, which is one of my main sources for inspiration.

be still my heart

My love for The Like (and Tennessee Thomas in particular) has been well chronicled on this blog, and yet again I am absolutely enamored with these shots of the all girl band by photographer James D Kelly (via the wonderful Louder than Silence). Aesthetically speaking, there are few things that please me more than classic sixties girl style combined with golden sunlight. Have you ever seen a more beautiful bunch of babes?!

France Gall is yet another of my favorite style icons who embodies everything I love about sixties girl style (previously featured: Tennessee Thomas, Marianne Faithfull). Her look was as dreamy as her music, which features prominently on my iPod. As Serge Gainsbourg's French pop protege France hit all the wardrobe high notes: baby doll dresses, bows, knee socks, and always the most perfect little black mary janes. Pay special attention to the ruffled polka dot frock below!

L'echo is one of my favorite songs of all time which you must give a listen for the piano alone. It makes me float away each and every time.

this little bird

Though I admire many talented ladies who found fame during the sixities, Marianne Faithfull is my favorite beauty icon of all time. Aside from having the most beautiful profile ever (those lips!) and gorgeous hair which I would gladly trade at least two of my limbs for, her sixties pop starlet wardrobe was/is to die for. Honestly, I get envious just looking at these photos.

to a t

I've already mentioned my love for The Like's drummer Tennessee Thomas but have decided that she is definitely deserving of an entire post dedicated to her wardrobe. There is no one who gets it "right" more consistently in accordance with my style guidelines (see: delusions of looking like a 60's pop starlet), and she's a beautiful babe to boot. From now on whenever I'm tempted to trim my unruly locks (which have been unattended for longer than I'd like to admit in my attempt to grow them past my knees) I think I'll refer to the below:

'60s beauty icons in b&w

Francoise Hardy

Twiggy

Marianne Faithfull

Pattie Boyd

Faye Dunaway

I am slain. These ladies (+ many more) have provided endless style inspiration for me since I discovered liquid liner (the elixir of immortality) at the age of 15, and are the reasons I have spent approx 50% of my waking hours since then applying it. See masthead for what I mean.

Boys are fine and all, but sometimes I love being a girl. These kinda make me feel that way. Warm weather and hopes of no longer settling may also have something to do with this.

I refuse to be ashamed of loving these as much as I do. Mark, Samantha, and Charlotte Ronson as Chas, Margot, and Richie Tenenbaum (for Harper's Bazaar). So good.
