Strawberry Switchblade were a Scottish new wave duo and the only girl band in a scene made up of many of my other fav groups like Orange Juice, Aztec Camera, and Primal Scream. Jill Bryson and Rose McDowall were talented musicians and style icons of ultra-feminine '80s gothic fashions including flowing dresses, giant backcombed hairdos, and lots of lower lid liner. These ladies described themselves as "scabby witches from Glasgow," who were always adorned in multiple layers of ribbon and lace. Strawberry Switchblade's obsession with polka dots of every size is very similar to my own, and I love the massive fabric flowers and hair bows they sported. Please also take note of the pink patent granny boots below, which make my heart beat a little faster!

I recently excavated from the depths of my parent's basement all of my Spice Girls merchandise, which is an extensive collection including every single temporary tattoo and candy wrapper I saved as a tween. Even my ticket stub from the premier of Spice World (dated January 23, 1998) survived, and is now framed to commemorate one of my first definitive pop culture experiences. Emma Bunton aka Baby Spice was always my favorite of the gang, and I've become obsessed all over again with her infamous uniform of mini dress, pigtails, and platform sneakers, rendered miniature along with a bear shaped backpack to accompany the doll in her likeness which sits upon my bookshelf.

My love for The Like (and Tennessee Thomas in particular) has been well chronicled on this blog, and yet again I am absolutely enamored with these shots of the all girl band by photographer James D Kelly (via the wonderful Louder than Silence). Aesthetically speaking, there are few things that please me more than classic sixties girl style combined with golden sunlight. Have you ever seen a more beautiful bunch of babes?!

I've been doing a lot of re-posting as of late, which I apologize for and promise that July and August will be more productive in my neck of the blogging woods. I'm not sure where these shots of all-girl band The Like originated, but they're too good not to share. The theatre at my uni is showing one of Wes Anderson's flicks each Tuesday in March, which has been nice to look forward to. One of my favourite film scenes of all time is from The Royal Tenenbaums, and while it's infinitely more shiver inducing on the big screen I'd like to remind you all of this little gem (feat Nico's These Days):
