more is more: my denim jacket

My entire patch collection is now adorning my denim jacket just in time for spring, and it looks super rad if I do say so myself. I love that pins and patches are a "thing" now, and eagerly bought up all of these pieces from independent designers and a few random places online. The makers of everything are listed below except for those that were thrifted or can be found via Ebay searches - some of my very favorites to scroll through are vintage Girl Guide patches from any era, but especially the '90s. star seed vintage is open!

I'm super excited to announce that after years of planning to do so I've finally opened my Etsy shop, star seed vintage. There you can find a retro collection full of treasures I have gathered from many different places, which are now for sale! I've selected pieces from the 50s-90s with a mix of Anna Karina and Courtney Love in mind, like sweet mod mini dresses and sassy printed crop tops. balloonatic birthday shoot

Along with cake, one of the best bits of my 27th birthday last month was the arrival of this giant, confetti filled, pink and gold tasseled, helium balloon from Balloonatic. Omg, right? It was such a thing of beauty to have floating around! Balloonatic & Co. is a women owned and operated business headed up by the lovely Crystal, who shares my penchant for many of the finer things in life including florals, lace, sparkles, and stationery (day planners especially!). Based in my hometown, Balloonatic do local deliveries and ship their beautiful creations all over Canada. Crystal was so kind as to let me design the balloon of my dreams for a birthday photo shoot; I dressed to match in a pink pinafore from The Whitepepper, shoes from Asos, and a beehive as tall as I could get it.

While much of the blogging world is anxiously anticipating the arrival of spring any day now, here in Canada the winter weather usually lasts well into April. Wearing faux-fur is one of the coziest and cuddliest ways to dress for frigid temperatures, and the brighter the better for breaking up the bleak landscape. My favorite coat is a hot pink number that garners a lot of compliments, but the most fabulous fuzzy pieces I've seen are from British label Shrimps. Designer Hannah Weiland (below) uses all synthetic materials, so animal lovers need not worry; the fake-fur colors are fantastically saturated and vibrant, appearing on coats, bags, shoes, and scarves. A gorgeous presentation of Shrimps Fall/Winter '15 took place last week in London and featured lots of signature softness, along with embroidery and glitter. It goes without saying that I am smitten!

Lazy Oaf is one of my favorite London labels and responsible for this amazing fluffy cat face crop top, which I am well and truly obsessed with. When it's not on me I hang it near my work space in the bedroom to cheer me up.

I highly endorse copious use of emojis in text messaging and can now do the same on paper. I was super excited to find these stickers (one of each emoji!) at a local bookstore, but you can get them here too.

This awesome patch came from Explorer's Press and is waiting patiently to be sewn onto my denim jacket. EP is a Canadian company that makes pins, patches, and other accessories; all of their charming pieces are limited edition so those available are always changing.

These latest additions to my pin collection are little works of art. LOST AT LAST is from the aforementioned Explorer's Press, and continuing my penchant for irl emojis are the dancing girls from Valley Cruise Press.

I've been admiring Tic Tac Toe shoes ever since I worked at American Apparel and we carried a few styles. Imagine how surprised I was to find a gorgeous gold pair of Mary Janes in my size while thrifting a few weeks ago! These are the perfect classic shape and cost a whopping $8.

Hello lovely readers, long time no see! Thanks for joining me on this petite midweek (iced) coffee break, complete with sprinkles and whipped cream on top. Hopefully you've got something equally tasty to enjoy while reading this little update on the life and times of yours truly.

I've been busier than ever during the final year of my Women's & Gender Studies degree, hence the lack of updates. A few of my pen pals have written to me recently with questions/curiosity about feminism and while I am not an expert, this is super exciting to share with women all over the world!

Like any sensible individual I love Halloween but autumnal hues aren't really my thing, so naturally I painted my miniature pumpkins white and covered them in pink and yellow pom poms. Now they sort of look like little spaceships hovering above our mantle.

A few weeks ago I won a giveaway from Ellenface Vintage via the amazing Alex at Larkspur Shoppe! I chose this beaded silk collar which is very much too small for my neck but looks adorable hanging on the wall above my bed. I'm usually not too disappointed when such beautiful vintage doesn't fit since it can always be used for decoration.

These boots from Vagabond and my egg dress from The Whitepepper are two pieces I've been wearing somewhat constantly. I have given TWP a lot of free press on my blog for good reason; their smock dresses are adorable and so comfortable that I now own three, but this one is def my fav. That's all for now!
